It all starts with submitting your application! We have international study abroad partners in Europe, South America, and Asia. Once your cultural exchange application with us is approved, we will connect you with one of our partners to begin your journey.
Our exchange visitor programs are open to students of different ages and backgrounds. The high school exchange program and homestay program are available for students aged 14-18 that are enrolled in high school in their home country. The summer camp and summer work and travel programs are designed for college students or recent graduates. United Studies helps match you to the right international education or foreign exchange student program based on your age, goals, and experience.
Foreign exchange students participating in our high school and homestay programs are matched with cultural exchange host families across the United States. America is vast country that encompasses an amazing array of both biological and cultural diversity.
Students on the J-1 Visa Program are matched to an ideal host family regardless of location nationally. We believe that every area of America has worth and lessons to be learned and that no area should be overlooked. Students on the F-1 Visa Program may choose the school and location they wish to be placed.
Foreign exchange visitors participating in our summer work and travel program receive assistance finding accommodations for their stay. Housing is usually included in the agreement for students participating in the summer camp program.
Yes. Foreign exchange student visitor programs require a U.S. visa such as a J1 visa, F1 visa, or work visa, depending on the program. The U.S. visa application process can feel confusing, but United Studies guides you through each step to make sure your American visa is handled correctly.
United Studies requires that students have a good grasp on the English language both verbal and written. Our minimum ELTiS score is 220. This ensures you can communicate with your host family, schoolmates, coworkers, and others you come across in your adventures.

Our foreign exchange students organization stays involved throughout the program to ensure support is always available.
We believe that the United Studies cultural exchange program is the only choice for students who want to have the best possible exchange experience. We select exchange participants carefully, our Local Coordinators are well trained and carefully select host families, and our office staff have decades of experience in high school exchange programs.
Yes! Support does not stop once you arrive. United Studies and local coordinators stay in touch throughout your international exchange experience. Whether you are in a homestay program, school, or work placement, help is available if you have questions or concerns.
For high school participants in the United Studies exchange program, you will be experiencing living in America on a daily basis and that is often exciting enough as it is! While you may have opportunities to travel with your host family, host families are not required to take you on trips and vacations. Please remember that your main focus while on program is to go to school, do well academically and fully integrate into your host family. Independent travel without your host family, school or Local Coordinator are not permitted.
For college students in the summer work and travel programs or summer camp programs, time is often included after the end of the work experience to allow you to travel the country.
United Studies provides excellent support to our students throughout their exchange program. Local Coordinators and office staff are trained to help work through any problems exchange student might experience throughout the year with their host family, school, or anything else that may arise.
